Luttrell Psalter (1320-1340) Portrait of Sir Geoffrey Luttrell

Dublin Core

Title

Luttrell Psalter (1320-1340) Portrait of Sir Geoffrey Luttrell

Description

The illustration on this page depicts Sir Geoffrey Luttrell himself alongside his wife and daughter. His wife is handing him his helmet as his daughter holds his shield. This illustration depicts Luttrell as a wealthy knight with lavish decorative armor for both himself and his horse. It’s possible that Luttrell wanted to be depicted this way so as to be remembered fondly by future generations, as he commissioned the making of this book towards the end of his life. This page serves as an example of how some grotesque illustrations were meant to represent the specific commissioners of the work.
